Book Extensions in the Classroom

  • Use the book to launch into a class conversation about the importance of rules

  • Co-construct a set of class rules (that Dennis will enforce!)

  • Get the sillies out or help transition students into more focused work

  • Discuss how mindfulness can help us focus

  • Use Dennis as a playful redirection or classroom management strategy (enjoy the posters!)

  • Use “I am ready to listen. I am ready to learn. I am not Dennis-food” as a class mantra

  • Have students come up with an alternate ending to feed Dennis something else

  • Have students come up with their own rules or rule-enforcing monster

  • Build a positive classroom climate with an interactive read-aloud geared toward connection
