Why Picture Book Mentorships?

Over the past few years, I have loved collaborating with so many different people and playing a unique role in their story. Seeing picture book authors empowered, energized, and encouraged by feedback brings my teacher heart so much joy! But my favorite thing is getting to work with an author over multiple manuscripts, seeing their growth, and hearing about their journey in publishing. Many of my clients have gone on to receive offers of representation and even gotten book deals. I love being part of that! I'd love to be your picture book mentor, too!

Since launching my picture book story coaching service in 2023, I have critiqued over 350 manuscripts and logged over 175 hours on Zoom session critiques alone. Since an average of 30% of the authors I work with are repeat clients, I wanted to offer a more affordable pathway to collaborating on multiple critiques at once. I've got so much to share in my years of being a traditionally published author with three "big five" picture book deals. I'd love the opportunity to walk alongside you and be part of your story as well.  

 

How it Will Work:

You will get to share three picture book manuscripts, and we will have a one-hour Zoom session about each. We'll have time in each Zoom to talk shop so I can be a practical resource and get to know you wherever you're at. I'll read each manuscript out loud, hear your questions and concerns for the story, give big picture/concept feedback, as well as line-level suggestions. In my critiques, I tend to go deep and share what I think really works about your book and how it could be even stronger through revision. We'll talk about tension and art notes and pagination and theme and everything in between. And it's going to feel organic and conversational--who knows what rabbit hole we'll go down!

After the initial Zoom session, I'll give you time to revise with no pressure to complete the revision by a certain deadline. We can jump into your next manuscript or wait until you're ready to share your revised version of the manuscript we already discussed--it's totally up to you! This is 100% self-paced, and I'll work with whatever timeline works for you. 

 

At the end of the process, you will have gained SIX HOURS of picture book authoring professional development and hopefully a fellow author friend you can reach out to as you continue your journey.
